FAQ
Ameritime serves as a trusted resource for financial education and guidance tailored specifically to the KPERS pension and retirement savings options.
We provide timely legislative updates, clear and practical explanations, and educational support surrounding KPERS, 403(b), and 457(b) plans.
What is KPERS and how does it work?
KPERS is a defined benefit pension system that pools contributions from you and your employer and invests them to pay retirement benefits. Once you’re vested, you earn a lifetime, monthly benefit that doesn’t run out, even if you live many years in retirement.
What does “being vested” mean?
Vested means you’ve worked long enough to be guaranteed a pension benefit when you retire. Typically, after a set number of years of service. For KPERS it’s 5 years to be fully vested.
When can I retire with full benefits?
Retirement eligibility depends on your KPERS tier and
years of service. Full retirement often requires a combination of age and service credits. For some KPERS plans, you can retire earlier with reduced benefits.
